Uhhh. It has, yet again, been forever. But I’m back, and and I am super super stoked and honored to be able to say that I’m the official blogger for the March 2018 Polish Pickup That also means that a lot of y’all are new here sooooo WELCOME TO TWANGY BABBLE TIME, FOLKS.

YEP. A large part of my silence has been due to this because there’s so much work involved, but it has been a total blast! I’ve had the chance to work with a ton of wonderful makers, and I may or may not have fangirled the entire time.

If you’re not quite sure what the Polish Pickup is, it is monthly lacquer shop called the Polish Pickup. It’s a neat idea because there are monthly themes where folks like you and I get to vote, and then makers can choose to participate if they want. And even better? Shipping is a flat $3 to the US and $5 to Canada (as well as other international countries at cost). So, with all of the different creations, you can pick which ones you want, and then the gals over at Fair Maiden Polish will ship them your way after the preorder window.

The March theme is Books (ABOUT TIME, AMIRITE?) and ho lee she it, everything is amazeballs. This post is going to cover 16 brands and is gonna be SUPER photo heavy. You’ve been warned. So go on, settle in, get comfy, grab your snack, and lehgo.

6 Harts Polish – Watch Her Fly ($10.50 – Cap of 150); A deep fuschia/purple cruelly with color-shifting pigment, copper sparkles and microflakies. Inspiration: Dragonquest

It applies beautifully in two thin coats and settles super nicely on it’s own. Because it’s super pigmented, it can dry to an almost semi-matte finish, so I topped mine with top coat for my photos.

Alter Ego – Midsummer’s Night Dream ($7.50 with no cap); a metallic pewter. Inspiration: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

I love love love how soft MND is! It’s just a touch on the thicker side BUT it’s in the best way possible because it goes on in one smooth coat. Because of the metallic element, brushstrokes can show, so I’d recommend not overworking the polish as you paint it on. SO PRETTY!  One coat plus top coat shown in photos.

Anchor & Heart Lacquer – Rhyme & Reason ($12 capped at 150); a smokey denim holo base with red/pink/orange shifting aurora pigment, scattered copper holo micro glitter, and gold metallic flakies. Inspiration: The Phantom Tollbooth

OHHH BOY. I am absolutely in love with Rhyme & Reason! I’ve never read The Phantom Tollbooth, but Taryn most definitely captured the cover perfectly. This soft blue goes on in two coats plus top coat. And those flakies and that shift? I DIE.

B Polished – Like Anybody Reads In The Library! ($12 capped at 200); it is a purple to clear thermal packed with red and color shifting shimmer, flakes and aurora pigment. In it’s cold state it is a medium purple that transitions to clear when warm, although it will look pink/red due to the shimmer. Inspiration: Sweet Valley High

This kind of purple is my jam, y’all. I also love love love that the shimmer makes the warm state appear a pinky red, it adds so much to it. With my VNL, I needed three coats plus top coat, but most will be able to get away with just two!

B Polished – Secret Garden-inspired Rose Squishy ($5 capped at 75); soft and squishy and scented like yummy strawberries. Inspiration: The Secret Garden

I’m blown away by how scented this thing is! It’s super super calming to play with and helps my hands a lot. I’ve been wearing a brace for the last two weeks due to a carpal tunnel flare up, and using this each night has helped stretch everything out. PLEASE NOTE that I am not advocating that this will help any sort of medical stuff, that’s just my personal experience. I’d also like to point out that the ones that are purchased will not have a glossy finish on them – Francine noticed that some felt almost sticky, so she’s going to opt out of that for the sale. Either way, this multichrome squishy is one of my favorite things this month!

Baroness X – Acetone Antidotes (Moloko Drengo – $4.50 with no cap and Clockwork Orange – $4.50 capped at 115); Moloko Drengo is scented like cookies and cream (HOLY YUM) and Clockwork Orange is dreamsicle scented but with a touch more citrus. Inspiration: A Clockwork Orange

It is no surprise that I love Demi’s AAs. I probably have a stockpile of like 15 somewhere around my nail area. I like to add one full vial to my 16oz acetone bottle and it does wonders! It masks the acetone smell (at least to a level that won’t leave you feeling like you’re higher than a kite) and it’s super hydrating. It is what saved me during all of these swatches – I’m pretty sure my skin would have dried up and flaked off. Ew. But yes. These are the tits.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer – I See You Yi Yi ($12 with no cap); an ultra holo aquamarine polish with green to red to orange color shifting iridescent flakes. Inspiration: High Voltage

Ohhh man. Sarah knocked this one out of the park. There was a very audible “oooooooh” that escaped my lips as I pulled it from the package. It’s super delicate but that holo and those flakies take it to a whole different level. I did notice a slightly stronger smell with this one (I think I’m sensitive to the scent of the base), but once I added top coat, it was gone. My photos show two coats plus TC.

Bliss Polish – Amortentia Wax; a blend of sweet warm woods, woodland rose and patchouli. Inspiration: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

In all 100% honesty, patchouli is one of my no no scents because it triggers migraines, so I have not melted this one BUT I can definitely pick up on the rose scent on cold sniff, and I love that part of it.

Bliss Polish – Master of Death ($11); an inky purple is is filled with micro flakes that shift from copper to blue with a dusting of holo. Inspiration: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

My actual photos are slightly tweaked (versus what’s in my collage) because my camera pulls purples to a blue shade but this one is totally closer to the purple in the full photos. I’ve been a huge fan of Yvette’s polishes for a few years now, and this one is totally on par with everything else that I’ve fallen in love with over the years. My photos show two coats plus top coat.

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer – Because of My Character ($14 with a cap of 100); a silver ultra holographic with 3 sizes of holo pigment, silver ultra holo glitter, cyan/indigo aurora shifting pigment, purple/copper/green aurora shifting pigment, platinum micro flakes, blue/green/gold shifting flakes, and fuchsia/copper/lime shifting flakes. Inspiration: The Glittering Court

Y’all. Julie is a woman after my own heart. She’s southern and has a flair for all things holo, and this beauty is absolutely breathtaking. It’s just so so so good! She recently had a tiny human of her own, but still had time to create this blingy lacquer. I’m hella impressed. Photos show two coats plus top coat.

Bluebird Lacquer – Always Something Left to Love bath bomb ($4.50 with no cap); a blend of ylang ylang, jasmine, rose, dirt and spice. Made with organic shea butter, apricot and coconut oil, it is hydrating and luxurious. Inspiration: One Hundred Years of Solitude

YOU GUYS, Y’ALL NEED THIS. Seriously. This is not a drill. This is not a test. This is actually effing amazing. I don’t care for earthy scents, but this one absolutely made my nose area happy as all get out. It’s also super super hydrating, which I love, especially after I soak. Because of the oils and butters, it can leave your tub just a tiny bit slick, so I’d be careful getting out. I’m also super super stoked because it does not leave a ring of color on you OR your tub. No lie, I’m going to pick up a ton of these to hoard. They’re that damn good, dudes.

Bluebird Lacquer – Charitible Deceptions of Nostalgia ($12 with no cap); a deep olive green with a megenta to copper shift. It is packed full of shifting flakies and micro holo flakes. Inspiration: Love in the Time of Cholera

So this one arrived today because the USPS decided to send it all the way to Texas BUT I am so in love. I plan on wearing it for a few days. It’s murky and just plain wonderful. It’s also pretty damn opaque, but I used two coats plus top coat for my photos. Also. Those flakies. We need to address those. You know why? BECAUSE THEY DESERVE EVERY OUNCE OF ATTENTION.

BLUSH Lacquers – An Eccentric Billionaire ($13 with no cap); muted soft yellow-green crelly with pink-purple-blue-green multichrome flakes, a shifting pink-purple-red-gold shimmer, scattered holo and holo flakes. Depending on skintone and lighting, this polish may lean more yellow or green. Inspiration: The Great Gatsby

This was my first BLUSH lacquer, and most definitely not my last, because I’m totally swooning. It went on in two buttery coats and the shimmer (that, of course, I couldn’t catch on camera) is legit one of the best things of 2018. My photos show two coats plus top coat.

Bohemian Polish – Cloak & Dagger ($12 no cap); a burgundy shimmer with holo and gold to red aurora pigments to give it some shiftiness and depth, inspired by the Kushiel’s Dart series. In the series the heroine Phedre wears a deep red cloak, and her oath sworn companion Joscelin defends her honor and her life with his twin daggers. Inspiration: Kushiel’s Dart

One coat burgundy holo? HELL YEAH. Now mind you, I’m a potato and went back for a second coat out of habit. Ooops. But legit. I need y’all to take a second to drool over this one. It’s absolutely gorgeous, right? My photos show two coats plus top coat.

Bohemian Polish – Shh… Wax Melt ($2.50 no cap); a blend of vanilla, oak, vetiver, coffee, dust and ink to mimic a library and evoke images of sitting among the stacks, sipping a latte and discovering new books and adventures.

Shh… is a super cozy and inviting scent. I don’t care for vanilla blends, but this one… it’s not too overpowering and it mixes so well with everything else. It also throws like a beast. I cut mine in half and it gave off scent for several hours.

Cameo Colours Lacquers – Roads Only Found With The Mind ($11.50 with a 200 cap); off-white scattered holo crelly, with a red-green shifting shimmer, silver, gunmetal and red flakes, and a smattering of chameleon and black holographic microglitter. Inspiration: NOS4A2

Oh yes. Oh oh oh oh oh yes. You know what this reminds me of? It’s like walking on the beach and looking at all of the sand, where you can see all of the colors within. It’s gorgeous, and goes on super smoothly. My photos show two coats plus two coat.

Chirality Polish – Shug’s Purple ($10 with no cap); inky black base filled to the brim with 4 different shades of purple and violet sparkly shimmer, with a subtle touch of purple to gold color shifting shimmer. Inspiration: The Color Purple

Black and purple, it’s so good! I couldn’t pick up on the gold shift, but in person it’s like BAM. This glowy beauty goes on in two coats, and my photos also show top coat.

Colores de Carol – Sayuri ($11 with cap of 215); a thermal that is red when cold and colorless when warm, it has pink to green shimmer, micro holo red glitter, UCC flakes and holo dust. Inspiration: Memoirs of a Geisha

I think March might just be the month of thermals, y’all. This one is another stunner, and it transitions so smoothly! I am so in love with the UCC flakes in there, and they pair super nicely with the glitters. It matches the inspiration wonderfully. My photos show tow coats plus top coat.

Colors by Llarowe – Love You Forever, Like You For Always ($11 no cap); a periwinkle blue holo base with green to blue shift and pink to lilac shimmer. Inspiration: Love You Forever

Leah Ann has won my heart over many many times with her holos, and this one most definitely did it again. It’s the perfect baby blue and I am swooning. My photos show two coats plus top coat.

Contrary Polish – All the Colors I Am Inside ($12.50 no cap); a cafe au lait colored base with red-orange-gold-green multichrome shimmer, holo microflakes, and various iridescent color-shifting flakes. Inspiration: Shel Silverstein’s Where The Sidewalk Ends

This beautiful taupey grey is life, folks. L I F E. Those flakies, too, add so much – it’s like looking into stained glass. So so so well done. My photos show two coats plus top coat.

Contrary Polish – Sea of Flames lip balm ($6.50 capped at 100); the lip balm was inspired by the “Sea of Flames” gem in the book All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. This fictional gem is described as “the blue of tropical seas [with] a touch of red at its center, like flames inside a drop of water.” In this lip balm, the “water” is a sea blue with green shimmer, the “flames” are a orangey pink-red, and there’s a copper-red shimmer running through both. The balm is tinted in the jar but only provides the slightest hint of shimmer on the lips.

I am loving this balm! It’s super soft, goes on really easily, and leaves my lips super hydrated.

There’s some great stuff here, yeah? I’m absolutely smitten with this month’s offerings. 1. How did I not know that there were 2 products based on novels by my favorite writer in the world? I am so excited I can barely contain myself. I am definitely going to pick up Charitible Deceptions of Nostalgia. I am also a huge fan of the Kushiel’s Dart series so I may pick up Cloak and Dagger. I thought there was also a polish based on The Little Prince but haven’t seen much about it. I’ll have to do more digging. Thanks for all the hard work for this post!

    1. There is indeed a polish based on that! It’s by Pahlish and oh my gods it’s actually one of the pretties things to ever exist.

      Thank you so much! <3

  2. Every month I think my wallet will be (mostly) spared from serious damage, and every month I am so wrong. These are are gorgeous! Even those I wasn’t sure I would like based on the inspiration are exceptional!
