The new school year at Hogwarts has just begun, and Slug & Jiggers Apothecary (located in Diagon Alley – established 1207) has been hard at work creating the perfect potions. These release on Tuesday, September 1st, so you’ll want to have your owls ready to go.
In all seriousness, Jennifer from Bohemian Polish (formerly known as Finger Lickin’ Lacquer), has created an absolutely gorgeous collection that perfectly represents items from the Harry Potter universe. As a big fan of the books (uh, may or may not have a Deathly Hallows tattoo), I’m very excited that I get to share this with you guys.
This collection features 7 full-sized potions, each priced at $9 USD (approx. 15 sickles and 5 knuts) with the exception of Half-Life which will be $10 USD (or 1 galleon). Be sure to read all the way to the end (or skip through if you want; I ain’t the boss of ya), there’s a discount code for y’all to use!
(This’ll be a little picture heavy, y’all have been warned!)
Half-Life is a silver linear holographic polish with a metallic finish. Unlike the others on this list, Half-Life is not a potion at all but a cursed ingredient, unicorn blood. Drinking this gives the user a cursed existence, so settle for putting this on your nails and being a magical unicorn instead. Opaque in two coats.
Out of all of the silver holographic polishes that I have seen, I’ve never encountered anything like this. The metallic finish gives it such a beautiful look, and the holo is very intense. You don’t need flash or bright light to see it. Just what I need, something new to distract me from my divinations classwork.
Love Potion No. 9 3/4 is a bubblegum pink holographic polish with iridescent flakes. Made with Amortentia in mind, this polish will make you fall under its spell with its smooth and sparkly finish. Opaque in three thin coats.
I think this may be my favorite from the collection. It reminds me so so much of Baroness X’s Love Sparks LE polish from Valentine’s Day this year. I have a pretty clear fill line on it, so I’m glad to have something that’s so similar. It’s such a gorgeous shade, but I did notice just a slight bit of staining once I removed it. Nothing too bad, though. Definitely nothing that’ll make me want to steer clear of it for future manis.
Don’t Mind the Steam is a magenta holographic polish with golden shimmer. Like Pepperup Potion, this bold polish will have you feeling fabulous in no time. Opaque in three thin coats.
One can never have too many pinks and purples. Seriously. Give them alllllllll to me. The gold shimmer throughout definitely brings a special element to this, and I’m very happy to have this in my collection. It’s so glowy and bright and happy and just ugh. Do like.
See No Dreams is a soft purple holographic polish with purple-to-blue color shifting glitter. You can rest easy wearing this polish without worrying about You-Know-Who or his masked goons finding you, but there’s no need to take Dreamless Sleep. Opaque in three thin coats.
I lied. This one is my favorite. It’s such a delicate shade, but so completely intricate. It shifts beautifully and I feel like it’d be flattering on all skin tones.
Liquid Luck is a warm golden-orange holographic polish with warm gold glitter. Like Felix Felicis, you can do no wrong with this polish! Opaque in three thin coats.
Please please don’t let my photos fool you about the color of this polish.. It’s so much warmer in person, but my phone and lighting setup cooled it quite a bit. This is going to be a staple in a lot of my fall manis, I can already tell. It is, in my opinion, the perfect delicate pumpkin shade. The gold though. The gold. It brings so much more to the shade and I’m sitting here drooling over how gorgeous it is.
Steal Your Face is a green holographic polish with green-to-red color shifting shimmer. Unlike Polyjuice Potion, you won’t have to drink this polish to get the full shifty effect! Opaque in three thin coats.
Y’all. The amount of holo in this one should be illegal. I damn near can’t even. In normal lighting, it’s a gorgeous warm green, but in the sunlight, BAM. In. Yo. Face.
Furry Little Problem Solver is the newest addition to the Slug and Jiggers cosmetic potion line! Inspired by Wolfsbane Potion, this bright blue holographic polish has iridescent flakes that bottle the moon and tame the wild werewolf within. Opaque in three thin coats.
The flakies in FLPS make this polish friggen stunning, and a must-have in any blue fan’s polish arsenal. I love how vibrant the blue is, and how well the holo ties in with it – it’s not too intense, but it’s not so understated that you cannot see it. The polish itself goes on a little thick, so be sure to use thin coats when applying.
The cuticle oil they created is divine. With hints of buttered rum, vanilla, and butterscotch, this cuticle oil is appropriately named after butterbeer. It’s perfectly sweet without being overpowering or underwhelming and the oil itself is wonderful. I have sensory issues as far as textures and all that fun stuff, so I’m always a little nervous using oils on my skin for fear that they won’t absorb quickly. This one did, but just enough that I could still feel just how moisturized it left my skin. Also, look how friggen large they come! I used a bottle for comparison. This rollerball is going to last me eons. Though, I will still purchase backups!
For each nail polish that I swatched, I used the flash dry top coat from Jennifer’s shop. It went on like a dream, dried quickly and did not dull any of the holo. I also had no issues with shrinkage – will be snagging a few more bottles of this top coat since that’s a bit difficult to find these days.
Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with this collection, and I’m excited to see what y’all pick up! What’s on your wishlist? Be sure to enter WANDCORE at checkout to receive 20% off of your total!
Jennifer was kind enough to pick me to swatch and review this collection, but please keep in mind that all opinions are my own!
